History
The Frescobaldi family has roots in Tuscany since 1300, from when Dino Frescobaldi, a poet friend of Dante who returned the first 7 cantos of the Divine Comedy. The family acquired estates in Chianti and began producing and selling wine, planting international grape varieties in the 1800s. In the 1900s, the company innovated its production methods and saw great technological advancements; today the group is managed by Lamberto Frescobaldi, the thirtieth generation of the family. The Castello di Nipozzano is an ancient defensive fortress, where Sangiovese is the main grape variety, but Cabernet, Merlot, and Petit Verdot are also grown to produce Mormoreto and other great wines.
Grapes used
Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot
Production Method
The grapes are hand-harvested and sorted twice, first in the vineyard and then in the winery. Fermentation and maceration take place at controlled temperature, with gentle pump-overs. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and then ages in French oak barrels for 24 months. It will then rest in the bottle before being sold.

Tasting notes
It has a complex bouquet with aromas of ripe red fruit, spices, herbs, balsamics, and minerals. On the palate, the wine is balanced with a soft and full body, good acidity and tannins, and a long, elegant finish.
Possible Pairings
Mormoreto is a great, purebred wine produced in the Chianti Rufina and skillfully combines territory with knowledge in the winery. It is perfect as a meditation wine thanks to its great balance and complexity, especially if left to rest for a few years in the cellar. The pairing is perfect with red meats or game, especially if well cooked and seasoned with aromas and spices.
