Description
History
Le Macchiole was founded around the early 1980s thanks to the intuition and vision of Eugenio Campolmi and Cinzia Merli who, on the wave of growing interest in the Bolgheri area, were among the pioneers of the area. This allowed him to immediately create wines which then became stylistic reference points for the entire denomination; today the contribution of the two sons Elia and Mattia is fundamental in the company, who represent to all intents and purposes the second generation of this beautiful reality.
Grapes used
Merlot 100%
Production method
The grapes all come from two vineyards of the company, namely the Vignone and Ulivino. The vines are cultivated with the simple guyot system, the yield is deliberately kept low and the grapes are generally harvested around the second half of September. The vinification takes place in concrete with a maceration of about thirty days and subsequently the wine ages in barriques for 15-18 months and other months in the bottle before being placed on the market.

Tasting notes
Intense ruby red color with violet notes. On the nose, notes of ripe red fruit are immediately perceived, reminiscent of calluses and currants, followed by hints of sweet spices and tobacco. On the palate it is enveloping, silky and soft, with elegant tannins and a long persistent finish. A wine of great structure and harmony.
Possible combinations
Le Macchiole’s Messorio goes perfectly with grilled or braised red meats, aged cheeses and dishes rich in flavor such as osso bucco and lamb. Also excellent to be enjoyed alone for a moment of pure high-level oenological pleasure.
