History

In 2003, the idea of ​​renovating the old vineyard, with an approach oriented towards sustainability and biodiversity, came to life by Mirta Fedespina and Antonio Farina, owners of the estate and wine enthusiasts, together with the winemaker Francesco Petacco. The choice was to work with a blend of native and international varieties: Ciliegiolo, a black grape variety native to the area, and Merlot, present in upper Lunigiana for centuries thanks to the passage of pilgrims along the Via Francigena. In 2014, with the arrival in the company of their son Matteo, an architect by training but a winemaker by passion, the research focused on the recovery of historic vineyards. The development continued with the acquisition of a fifty-year-old vineyard located at an altitude of 300 meters on the slopes of the Tuscan Apennines, with vines that are over 40 years old and are located on alluvial soils. In the vineyard, the approach is careful and as non-interventionist as possible, maintaining constant respect for biodiversity.

Production method

In the cellar, the work continues consistently with spontaneous fermentations in cement tanks and a maceration on the skins of about 20 days for this Pinot Noir. The wine then ages for 15 months in 300-liter French oak barrels.

Tasting notes

Bright ruby ​​red color. On the nose it reveals a wide range of aromas, ranging from blackcurrant to leather, from blackberry to refreshing balsamic herbs. On the palate it offers an extraordinary experience: although it is not a robust wine, it expands elegantly reaching every corner, thanks to a perfect harmony between its fruity structure, acidity and saline texture.

Possible pairings

Ideal with first courses with tomato and meat sauce, tasty cheeses and second courses of red meat.
