Description
History
Millonario is a Spanish-style South American rum brand produced in Peru, in the distillery of a country called Chiclayo, certainly not famous for the production of Rum but from which this jewel comes. Ron Millonario has been owned by Rossi & Rossi since the 1990s. Since then the rum has been awarded many prizes in various competitions, in particular as the world’s n.1 rum in 2008 and 2009. The distillery was founded by the Piera de Castillo family in 1904. The “luck” of the distillery is the almost perfect combination of some elements, including the cultivation of native sugar cane varieties “Rubia” and “Blanca” present for a very long time, the use of local yeasts and a Scottish alembic from 1938, the craftsmanship carried out by 13 craftsmen who have handed down the savoir-faire for generations. The Solera aging method which lasts up to 20 years is also a very important element, determining the quality of the final product.
Production method
To produce an “industrial” rum (this is how rums produced in the islands of former Spanish domination are called) molasses is used, which are often nothing more than sugar beet residues after processing for the production of the latter. This is then fermented, created a must and distilled. Subsequently these can be aged in wood and then created a blend of rums of various degrees of aging in order to find a perfect balance.
