Description
History
Silvio Messana is the soul of Montesecondo, born in Florence but raised in Tunisia and Libya where his family cultivated the land. After studying music in Boston and working as a composer and wine salesman in Manhattan, Silvio decided to return to Italy in 1999 to dedicate himself to viticulture as a winemaker. In 2000 he bottled the first vintage of Montesecondo and in 2003 he converted the property to organic. Today the company extends over approximately 17 hectares and Silvio mainly grows Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Trebbiano. His spontaneous vinification aims to maintain the lively and crunchy spirit of Sangiovese, moving away from the “traditional” trend of Chianti to be more authentic. Silvio’s wines tell a story of territory, of care and passion for the land, they tell of his sensitivity and artistic flair.

Tasting notes
Intense ruby red color, with hints tending towards garnet. On the nose notes of ripe red fruit, cherry, ripe berries, slightly withered violets, herbaceous hints, roasting spices, coffee, black pepper and cloves. In the mouth it is lively, enveloping and broad with great acidity, elegant but lively tannins and an underlying minerality. Definitely long and fruity finish, with hints of spices.
Possible combinations
In combination it is excellent with first courses with meat sauce, even well-structured ones, or with red meats in general. Also excellent with selections of medium-aged cheeses.
