History
The brothers Corrado and Marcello Fratini are already well-known faces in Bolgheri for the foundation of Tenuta Argentiera in 1999, again within the homonymous DOC which achieved great success for the quality of the wines produced. In 2016 they handed over control of the company to the Austrian entrepreneur Stanislaus Turnauer and returned to the limelight with a new project: Tenuta Hortense. 10 hectares of vineyards in the Castagneto Carducci area, mainly in Cabernet Sauvignon, identified through a team of worldwide experts to produce high quality wines. The project includes the consultancy of the agronomist Gianni Moscardini, the oenologist Eric Boissenot (consultant of important Bordeaux chateaux such as Lafite-Rothschild, Margaux, Mouton-Rothschild) the oenologist Emiliano Falsini (consultant of many important wine realities in Italy) and among others, Xavier Choné, Pedro Parra and Françoise Vannier. Bolgheri Superiore is produced in limited quantities, around 5-6,000 bottles.

Production method
The harvest takes place manually when the grapes reach perfect ripeness which occurs at different times depending on the variety. The grapes are fermented separately thanks to indigenous yeasts in stainless steel with a long maceration, during which frequent punching down and pumping over are carried out. After racking, the wine is aged for 18 months in 500-litre tonneaux.

Tasting notes
Dark and intense ruby red color with garnet rim. Intense and elegant bouquet of spices on the nose: tobacco, licorice, cinnamon, vanilla and black pepper with notes of ripe red fruit, dried flowers, minerality and balsamic hints. On the palate well built, sumptuous, elegant and mature, with good substance; even the tannins caress the palate. Closed by a balanced acidity and a very long and pleasantly spicy finish. Absolutely to discover.
Possible combinations
It was born thanks to the union of the skills of a team of brains that few can boast. Ideal as a meditation wine and to combine with important dishes of red meat or game.
