Description
History
Poderi e Cantine Oddero, a winery in La Morra, was founded in 1878. Giacomo Oddero, an ancestor of the family, was the first to bottle the wine under the family name. In 1911, Barolo Oddero received praise at the Turin International Exhibition. Giacomo Oddero, grandson of the founder, renewed the company in the 1950s, improving production techniques and founding the National Center for Alba Truffle Studies. Today the company is managed by the descendants of Giacomo, Mariacristina and their grandchildren Isabella and Pietro.
Grapes used
100% Nebbiolo
Production method
The grapes are harvested rigorously by hand during the first ten days of October. The attention in the vineyard is primary, and the grapes are carefully selected both during the harvest phase and upon arrival in the cellar. This is followed by destemming and pressing of the grapes, with vinification in steel and long maceration on the skins at a controlled temperature. At the end of the alcoholic fermentation the wine also undergoes malolactic fermentation. The refinement takes place in 20 hl barrels for 30 months with further refinement in the bottle before being placed on the market.

Tasting notes
Brilliant garnet red colour. Rich and complex on the nose, with hints of ripe red fruit including cherries and blackberries, balsamic hints of fir and menthol, spice notes of black pepper, licorice and bitter chocolate, all against a background of iodine. On the palate it is elegant, mature, soft and with a good structure. Enveloping and very elegant tannins, with a discreet acidity and final minerality. Very persistent and pleasant.
Possible combinations
Barolo Rocche di Castiglioni is a precious Barolo, rich in sensations and nuances, which for this very reason is a candidate to be a great meditation wine, suitable to be consumed only on special occasions. In combination it is very suitable for savory and important red meat or game dishes, such as braised meats or stews to name a few.
