From apple cider comes Calvados, which originated in Normandy, France. The distilled cider is distilled in discontinuous stills becoming a spirit, later left to age for at least two years in oak barrels, called foudres in French. Calvados aged for many years is usually more valuable. It can be served as an aperitif, between meals, and as a digestif.
